This Saturday (8th July) Prescott Speed Hillclimb will welcome participants in the various Championships organised by hosts the Bugatti Owners’ Club joined by competitors from series run by a variety of invited clubs. The resulting programme promises a varied day of high-speed action.
Classic Bugattis taking to the hill will include the early T13 of Julian Eckersley and Colin Bullock’s later T51. Among the race cars competing in the Bugatti Owners’ Club and Allcomers Handicap category will be the Force TA of Tricia and Terry Davis and the Mallock sports racer of Marc Taylor. Dominic Hentall will, as ever, be behind the wheel of his Lancia Aurelia powered single seater.
In the Pre-47 category, the Bentley 3½ litre special of David McRobert will take on a brace of MG J2s in the hands of Steve Rees and Nigel Harper while the sportscars taking on the Handicap challenge will include a host of Mazda MX5s along with the classic Allard J2 of Christopher Pring and Will Gough’s modern Alfa Romeo 4C. A diverse array of saloons vary from the classic Cortina GT of Callum Barney to the BMW M2 Competition driven by Terry Clifford.
The New Barn Land Rover RS Interclub Championship is also run on a handicap basis with classes for both novices and experts competing in production cars and another diverse array of machinery is entered for this category.
The Fassi Classic Speed Championship is one of the largest classic car hill climb championship in the UK and a mouth-watering array of sports and saloon cars are lined up to compete including the Jaguar XK120 of Ian Beattie, Peter Baker’s stately Daimler Conquest and John Barber’s pocket rocket, the Fiat Abarth 850TC Nurburgring.
The event will also welcome four competitors from Victoria, Australia, to take part in the Rob Roy Brake Shoes Challenge; the hill climb equivalent of The Ashes. This longstanding event will see the Brits take on the Aussies in a head to head competition, double driving cars and the winning team taking the spoils.
Points in the Downton Motor Club Speed Championship are available at a number of sprints and hill climbs throughout the season and a variety of Minis will be vying for points on Saturday including the very special Maguire Mini Cooper S of Derek Kessell.
Both the Porsche Speed and Hillclimb Championship and the MG Car Club Championship have attracted strong entries with the Porsche series seeing a variety of their rear, front and mid engined machinery set to tackle the wonderful Prescott hill.
Meanwhile, the MG entry spans much of the history of the famous Abingdon marque, from the MG TC of Keith Beningfield through the MGB Roadsters of Peter Mutch and Robert Orford to the MGF VVC of Tom Bowen with a few Austin Healeys thrown in for good measure.
All in all, Gloucestershire’s iconic motorsport venue promises a closely fought entertaining day of speed for spectators with a full range of refreshments and meals available at the Prescott Clubhouse and various outlets around the Hill.
Early Bird tickets are available now for £12 per person while accompanied under 16s and carers are admitted free of charge.
