BOC CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE - EVENT DETAILS ANNOUNCED

A number of season long Championship battles are set to reach a thrilling conclusion this Saturday (7th October) when Prescott Hillclimb hosts its Season Finale.

In addition to the Bugatti Owners’ Club’s own Championships, a number of guest series will be present, bringing with them a strong supercar entry including around 10 different Ferraris competing in the Pirelli supported championship open exclusively to Italy’s legendary marque.

Some of the finest British built cars, meanwhile, will be in action in the Aston Martin Owners’ Club Speed Championship along with the MSCC Techniques Speed Championship for Morgan Sportscars.

Returning to the host club’s own championships, both classes of the New Barn Land Rover Interclub Championship will be in action with the expert category including the Ginetta G20 of John Brunnier and Maggie Richards’ Renault Clio RS 200 while the novice category will feature a duel between Jonathan Ellwood’s Ellwood’s Honda Civic Type R and the MG Midget of Colin Richards.

The Fassi Classic Speed Championship has attracted a strong entry, as ever, with Class 1 including a diverse array of machinery such as the classic shape Mini Cooper S of Stephen Akers, Escort RS1660 of Ian Moss and Andrew Cairney’s Hillman Imp.

Class 2 will see in action Ian Beattie’s Jaguar XK120, the Clan Crusader of Henry Mitchell and Reliant Scimitar Coupes of both Garry Cox and Ian Stainburn. Class 3, meanwhile, will feature, amongst others, Jeremy River Fletcher in his Triumph Special and Ian Baxter driving his Brabham BT 16.

The 500 Owners Association Championship will feature an array of single seaters, largely from the 1950s, of the sort in which many of the great drivers of bygone years cut their teeth in the sport. Predominant are the Cooper Cars built by father and son Charles and John Cooper, initially in their Surbiton garage but other marques represented include Iota and Mallock.

Another machine to watch out for is the very special Maguire Mini Cooper S of Derek Kessell seeking points in the Downton Motor Club series while the Revington TR/TR Register Sprint and Hillclimb Championship will feature examples of the Triumph marque ranging from the TR3A to the TR7 V8.

Some of the more unusual cars competing among the strong entry for the Sports Car Class of the Bugatti Owners’ Club and Allcomers Handicap include the Alfa Romeo 4C driven by Will Gough, Christopher Pring’s Allard J2 and the Buckler Mark 5 of Keith Thomas. The Saloon Car Class features and array of Minis along with various Ford Fiestas, a Toyota Yaris and a brace of Subaru Imprezas.

In the racing car class meanwhile Edmund Burgess who set a new hill record for Bugattis earlier in the season in his delightful Type 51 will be looking to go even quicker in his modern-day Gould GR55. It is a Gould, driven by Wallace Menzies, that currently holds the outright hill record, climbing the 1127 Prescott long course in 35.05 seconds. Among the more distinctive cars in the class, meanwhile, will be the Lancia Aurelia based machine of Dominic Hentall.

Practice is scheduled to get underway at 8.30am on Saturday with timed runs following. Tickets bought in advance are £12 for adults. Under 16s and carers are admitted free of charge. Camping pitches are available for £10.

As ever, a full range of refreshments and meals will be available at the Prescott Clubhouse and various outlets around the Hill.
