Saturday presented itself with a glorious forecast, the paddock high in spirit and drivers preparing their cars for an exciting weekend ahead at the Bugatti Owners’ Clubs Season Finale.
Spectators were spoilt for choice with cars from all backgrounds competing in various championships and a variety of guest series too. The Saloon’s of the BOC and All Comers Handicap class were the trail blazers of the weekend setting some clean runs and fast times. Keen competitor Aaron Bland in his BMW M3 won the class with a 51.68. Paula Larisa Dragusanu in her BMW E36 M3 won the Sports class with a time of 53.54. Pre 1947 honours went to the Austin 7 of Matthew Harvey. Meanwhile the Race class saw top honours go to Jan Nycz in his Mallock mk 3.
After 9 rounds of the Bugatti Owners' Club FASSI Classic Speed Championship, this weekend hosted the seasons finale. The Sports Car Class saw Dominic Cheater in his Porsche 914 go head to head with Oliver Slater in the Ginetta G15 for championship honours. Despite Oliver producing a great drive, shaving two seconds off his first run time, it was Dominic who secured the championship with a spirited run coming in 1.91 seconds under handicap. Garry Cox secured the final championship podium place in the Reliant Scimitar Coupe. Three other drivers went under their handicap times on the day with Ryan Eamers’ drive in the Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite of particular note.
Defending Saloon Car Class champion Alistair Clark in the Triumph Vitesse Mk2 narrowly held onto his crown, securing the championship by just a single point over Matt Clarke in the Austin Mini. Simon Braithwaite was third in the Ford Escort RS1600. Matt & Simon were also locked in another battle with Gary Cox for fastest scratch time in a saloon/sports car. All three drivers completed the hill in 50 seconds, separated by just two tenths of a second, with Simon edging ahead of Matt after an epic final run. Another stand out saloon car drive on the day was Andrew Clarke in the Alfa Romeo GTV, taking round 10 honours with 0.4 seconds under handicap.
The Racing Car Class was set up nicely with Mallock vs Mallock. However, we were denied a grandstand finish when Ben Fisher suffered mechanical failure in practice meaning Christopher Wigdor was crowned champion. Last years runner up Peter Thurston impressed with fastest time of the day with 46.04 seconds.
Clive Berry was crowned overall champion & King of the Hill with a personal best time at Prescott in the Chrysler Sunbeam 1600Ti. Clive was running in the new for 2024 saloon cars 1977 – 1986 class. Next season this has been extended up to 1991 so we are looking forward to welcoming a larger field in 2025. Click here to view the full 2024 championship results table.
The 500 Owners Association Championship with the lightweight but gutsy single seaters had a superb turn out in class. The 500cc category went to Cooper Mk9 F3 of Frazer Deane while Richard Robarts took second place in his Cooper Mark 11. In the over 500cc category, the win was claimed by Andrew Turner in his Cooper Mark 6 this year.
Victory in the Ferrari Hillclimb Championship went to Rob Samuels in his Ferrari 458 Speciale ahead of Nick Taylor’s Ferrari 430 Coupe while the Bugatti Williams Monaco Trophy saw top honours go to Rupert Marks at the wheel of his Bugatti Type 13 Brescia.
Fastest time of the day, was set by Kevin Creaven in his Pilbeam MP88 with a time of 44.05s.
