An impressive array of two, three and four wheeled machinery will be in competitive action at Prescott this weekend (June 8/9) when the Bugatti Owners’ Club hold their Midsummer meeting.
Competitors in the Midland Speed Championship will be competing in their second double header in as many weeks after visiting Wales last weekend and sprinting at Pembrey race circuit.
Current series leader Anthony Brown is not scheduled to appear this weekend which means that Renault Clio drivers Mark Edwards and Stephen Hill, who currently lie second and third, have an opportunity to narrow the gap at the head of the table.
The Bristol Motor Club MX5 Challenge takes in a variety of motorsport disciplines and with several of the Japanese cars in action on Saturday, Sunday will see a full field take on the seventh of the twelve scheduled Championship rounds.
The HSA Speed Championship aims to attract newcomers to the sport as well as experienced competitors. Topping the standings currently is Honda S2000 driver William Hunt, tied with Andrew Webber in a Lotus Europa with a diverse array of road and race machinery set to compete for Championship points.
Places in the MAC Sunrise Speed Championship are determined by how competitors perform in relation to a target time set for them, enabling a wide variety of machinery to compete on an equal footing.
Similarly, the Bugatti Owners’ Club Handicap looks to offer a level playing field for all types of cars, both road and race machinery from through the years.
One of the strongest fields of the weekend is that for the Bugatti Owners’ Club New Barn RS Interclub Speed Championship. The series offers classes for Pre 1947 machinery along with more recent saloon, sports and racing cars.
Another strong field is that for Caterham and Lotus Seven Club Speed Championship, catering for a wide variety of machinery all based on Colin Chapman’s original, iconic Lotus Seven design.
Any Prescott event would be incomplete without examples of the great French marque taking to the hill. The cars in action this weekend will range from the original Type 13 model through to the Type 51 of Edmund Burgess with which he currently holds the Bugatti hill record. There is also a celebration the 50th Anniversary of Raymond Mays competing at Prescott Speed Hill Climb, with a special display of Bugatti Brescias on the Bugatti Terrace.
Moving from four wheels to two and three, the National Hillclimb Association pay their annual visit to Prescott with a wide variety of bikes, trikes and sidecar outfits in action across the weekend.
Topping the large engined open category currently is Paul Jeffrey and he will be in action this weekend along with his closest rival Tommy Hodges, both riders being KTM mounted. Among those chasing points in the Classic category will be Paul Machon on his Aermacchi on Saturday while on Sunday he will be riding his Seeley G50.
The solo machines will be joined by an interesting variety of sidecar outfits and Trikes.
Action on the hill gets underway at 8.30 each day and runs through to 5.00pm. Early bird tickets can be bought on-line for £12 per day or £18 for the weekend. Carers and accompanied children under 16 are admitted free of charge. Admission is also free for Bugatti Owners’ Club members. Light refreshments will be able from a variety of outlets along the BOC Clubhouse where full menus will also be available for breakfast, lunch and evening meals
