The Prescott Bridge
The now famous Prescott Bridge as we know it today is in fact the second bridge to have existed here at Prescott. The first bridge was built in the 1940's using a very crude design made out of wood on concrete support pillars that were laid directly next to the track surface... It would not pass today's standards! The first bridge was found to be in an unsound condition in 1964 and after being hit by a lorry filled with tarmac for the hill a few years later, the original bridge was demolished.
Some 20 years passed without a bridge until work commenced in late 1990 on the foundations of the new bridge which was eventually completed in the middle of 1991. The Prescott bridge is the only bridge that crosses the track of a UK Hillclimb.
The bridge has donned the Longstone banner since 2009 and has become synonymous with the Prescott Speed Hill Climb. The unmistakable feature is a staple in every spectators cameral gallery, even the competition administrators'!
